winding problems

Postby chaplin37 » Tue Mar 27, 2012 9:07 am

The pocket watch that I have when i pull out the crown to set the time it does it no problem, when i push it back in to wind it, it winds and also moves that hands too. I have taken apart this watch a bunch of times with no problems when i set the time and wind it. The winding gears are the way they are suppost to be so I have no clue why all of a sudden this is doing it. Any help would be great

Hi Chaplin37,
You might try checking that the clutch is moving freely on the stem. It may not be engaging with the winding pinion completely when put into the wind position allowing it to mesh slightly with the minute wheel. Check that the set lever and spring (shipping lever and shipping spring) are working as they should. If the spring isn't working correctly the clutch could be bouncing back and forth on the stem. Also if this is happening with the dial on only then check that something isn't dragging on the underside of the dial.
Hope this helps. Please let us know how it goes Chaplin,
Bob
