Putting a Pocket Watch in Beat

Postby wudswise » Tue Feb 21, 2012 9:04 pm

I have viewed the Watch Course and did not find any info regarding putting a watch in beat. Video 3 parts 1 & 2 show cleaning the balance wheel with the hairspring attached. If this is done do I still need to put the watch in beat? The videos don't specifically address putting the watch in beat. I am ready to disassemble my first movement, clean it and reassemble it but putting the watch in beat seems like it would be an important step.

Welcome to the forum Wudswise,
Yes, it's a very important step to learn but not usually necessary when assembling a watch after cleaning if the balance was in beat before removing it. You'll find beat setting covered in the Staffing video #4. When you start the video take a look in the Quick Navigation window in the video control panel and click on "Set Beat" and that will take you straight to it.
