Pulling gathering pallet

Postby estanek70 » Sun Mar 04, 2012 12:54 pm

I am working on a Seth Thomas movement and the pivot hole that the arbor for the gathering pallet runs through needs a bushing. The hole is so elongated that it will not allow the the pallet to gather the rack correctly. I have a small gear puller that I have never used. Is it safe to try to pull the pallet off with the gear puller or do I need to take other steps. All advice is appreciated.

Hi Ed,
Should work fine. I usually use a crows foot anvil and just tap the post out but also have a puller that works. Another handy little tool that people use is a pry bar. A couple tiny pry bars with spacers placed under the bars when needed will lift it right off. They also work well for removing cannon pinions. Paint can pry bars used for removing lids work great. I think you can get them at Home Depot or any paint store for next to nothing.
