pallet fork and roller jewel

Postby chaplin37 » Mon Mar 19, 2012 3:32 pm

Quick question, I have been trying for months to figure out why the balance wheel seems to move slow and why it will move then suddenly stop and I might have figured out why, but dont know a fix for it. My question is at any point is the roller jewel suppost to leave the pallet fork? If not does anyone have any idea on how to fix this problem? The jewel is not broken at all. Thanks everyone

Yes,. the roller jewel does enter and exit the pallet fork, repeatedly.
If you're having trouble with a balance that is not moving consistently, there are more than likely a number of problems, and here are a few.
1. Just plain dirty (or bent-broken) jewels, balance pivots, or the entire gear train needs an overhaul.
2. Mainspring could be sticking, or really weak.
3. Tangled or magnetized hairspring.

If you can tell us a bit more history, maybe we can help you pin it down a bit ???
